Getting started with feng shui is incredibly easy and a very effective method to add more positivity into your life, especially if you do it by yourself.

Feng shui works on the principles of balancing and infusing positive energy, so our tip is to start simple and focus on the basics of feng shui before moving to anything complex. If rearranging or rectifying a few things could immediately raise the vibration of your home and add more abundance to your life, it’s definitely something worth trying.

Front door

The front door is very important as it adds more chi which brings more positive energy to your home.

To ensure you have strong energy flow to your home make sure there are no empty bins, garbage bags, broken pots or dead plants anywhere around your front door. Most of us cannot change the way our entrance is built but you can make a good impression by getting rid of clutter, dead plants or anything that does not look inviting.

Stand outside your door and ask yourself, ‘does my entrance look inviting?’. You don’t need to spend lots of money to do this, just get rid of the clutter and rubbish and make sure the pathway to your door is always clean - adding flowers, plants or a water feature is an excellent idea.

Clean with salt

Salt is a crystal that has powerful healing properties of absorbing and clearing energies. Hence it is very important in feng shui.

To re-energise different spaces in your home, sprinkle salt in the corners, feel free to do it around every area of your home or stick to a specific room and let it stay there for 24 hours to absorb the energies. Sweep up the salt and dispose of it.

You can also choose to clean by sprinkling salt water or wipe tabletops or drawers with saltwater. The best way to do this is by soaking this water solution in the sun for a few hours.

If you feel that you have been emotionally drained with arguments, illness or stress having a bath by soaking in seawater or taking a bath in sea salt should help in detoxing and clearing the negativity.

Tibetan bell

Bells have been an indispensable tool commonly used in religious and spiritual ceremonies for their ability to inspire a sense of calm. The sounds generated by a Tibetan singing bowl or bell is proven to be an energy medicine that promotes healing from a lot of ailments which includes: depression, stress, pain anxiety and emotional distress.

You can begin this healing process by synchronising your brainwaves with the perfect resonance of the bowl. The unique sound from these bells set the mood for a serene environment perfect for meditation and stress relief.

You could start by ringing a Tibetan bell in your work area or any room of your house to encourage an environment of calm and peace. Do this every day and notice a subtle shift in your energy and the energy of your room.

Ventilation and light

Light and proper ventilation is a crucial part of feng shui. Make it a habit to open your curtains and your windows first thing in the morning and let fresh air in. Add this habit to your everyday routine.

Also remember that ventilation also helps to control moisture, one of the main culprits that lead to mould growth and structural damage. So make it a daily practice to open your curtains and let as much daylight into your home every day.

It is also a great idea to invest in some low maintenance indoor plants to improve the air quality in your home.

Fresh air cleanses our home, it is cheap and a very powerful way to add freshness, balance energies and keep everyone in your home healthy and happy.

Let go of the clutter and deep clean

Cleaning and getting rid of clutter increases the mental energy in your life. The metal energy leads to better focus and concentration.

It is also a great way to maintain cleanliness for your family’s health and wellbeing. More so, if you have any pets and kids. Everyone’s homes are full microscopic germs, but if you make it a habit to change your sheets every week, fluff your bedding in the dryer and deep clean your carpets twice a month, then it definitely reduces the possibility of pesky allergens.

Apart from health and mental benefits, cleaning is a sign of ridding stale energy and welcoming prosperity.
